A unique spot on the Costa Brava

Eolis Kite is located in l’Estartit, in one of the most special areas of the Costa Brava. Facing the Medes Islands and in the heart of the Baix Empordà, we work in a privileged setting for kitesurf, wingfoil, windsurf and paddle surf.

An ideal place to learn and ride

Unlike other more crowded areas of the Costa Brava, in l’Estartit we work in a calmer, more familiar environment, with an exclusive area for the school. This makes it a highly valued spot for learning, progressing and riding comfortably.

Wind, waves and water temperature

L’Estartit is a very complete spot, with a wide variety of rideable winds, good conditions depending on the time of day and a very interesting season for different levels and disciplines. Here is a general reference for the usual conditions at the spot.

General spot conditions

Early in the morning, the sea is usually very good for paddle surf and for heading out to discover the Montgrí coastline and coves such as La Pedrosa or La Ferriola. In the late morning, when the wind starts to pick up a little, there are often very good conditions for windsurfing. From midday onwards, when the wind gains strength, it is usually the best time for kitesurfing and wingfoiling. Depending on the day, this is a spot that offers different and very usable conditions for various sports and skill levels.

Typical winds at the spot

In spring and summer, one of the most frequent winds is the sea breeze, coming from the southeast. It is a right-hand thermal wind, side on, very steady and ideal for learning kitesurfing, windsurfing and wingfoiling.

At the same time of year, the garbí is also quite common, coming from the south-southwest. It is a side-off wind that usually comes in stronger than the thermal breeze and is also gustier.

We must not forget the gregal, coming from the northeast. It is a left-hand, side-on wind and one of the most valued directions at the spot. L’Estartit is one of the best areas on the Costa Brava for riding in gregal, and it is a wind that gives this spot a lot of quality.

The tramuntana, coming from the north-northwest, is a side-off wind. In summer it is usually less frequent, but in autumn it is often one of the best times to enjoy it.

From April to August, it is common to have between 70% and 90% of rideable days with F3 wind or more.

Waves and spot level

With northerly winds, good waves often form for lovers of surf kite, wingfoil in waves and surf foil. The beach of l’Estartit is considered one of the best wave spots in Catalonia. It is also a very complete spot for different riding levels and styles.

It is an especially interesting area for beginners, intermediates, freeride, foil and wave days when the right conditions come in.

Water temperature

Water temperature changes depending on the season, so it is worth coming properly equipped. For the winter months, we recommend a 5 mm wetsuit. During May and October, a 4 mm wetsuit. And in July, August and September, a shorty or, on the warmest days, a lycra.
